Title of the project : Promoting Access to Justice through Enhanced Responsiveness and Accountability of Communities and Public Institutions

Goal : Activate and enhance responsiveness of public institutions and communities to deliver effective access to justice and essential social services to the poor, women, children, religious/ethnic minorities and other marginalized groups.

Objectives :
i) provide effective access to justice, both formal and informal, at the community level, especially for the poor, women, children, religious/ethnic minorities, and other marginalized groups;
ii) build the capacity of the target communities to demand and monitor legal and social services;
iii) train Ups, PNGOs and communities to provide effective legal services at the community level

Duration : August 2013 –December 2016

The target groups/beneficiaries : The primary target groups are the inhabitants of the community especially the poor, women, children, religious/ethnic minorities, and other marginalized groups They will be benefited by understanding their rights and being able to access to justice.

Output-1 :
Skill and knowledge to run the VCs & UPLACs and MMM: Capacity Building trainings are a basic need for the duty bearers and field stimulators. The project organizes training (Refresher) for the Union Organizer and Project Manager (PM) on Mediation, Village Court, Arbitration Council & necessary laws. The UP Representatives and Staffs are also brought under Basic Training for their being knowledgeable with the necessary laws and information.

Output-2 :
The communities have knowledge on human and legal rights:
There are volunteer mediation committees at Ward level. The committees regularly sit for meeting, follow up the progress of project activities and work in favor of the project to run on. The other programs for dissemination of project objectives are Courtyard meeting, Ward Mediation Committee Meeting Workshop on Human Rights, Workshop on Village Court, Mediation  and  Necessary laws,National Legal Aid  Day Observation, IEC Materials Development ( Leaflet), Exchange views meeting  with local journalist and others.

Output-3 :
Effective Formal and informal justice system for the poor:
The project entertains the poor, especially women and children, providing legal aid support. As an effort to dispute resolution, it adopts Mediation, Village Courts and offers Court Case support through DLAC.

Output-4 :
Service delivered by UPs in the fields of access to justice: Quarterly meeting with UPLAC member are held to disseminate information of the project and keep concentrated more in using DLAC fund.
